Senator Boxer Statement on Keystone Tar Sands Pipeline Vote

Statement

Date: Jan. 29, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Oil and Gas

Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, released the statement below on today's Senate vote on S.1, a bill to approve the Keystone tar sands pipeline. The Senate passed S. 1, as amended, with a vote of 62 to 36.
Senator Boxer said: "The Republican leadership demonstrated again today that helping special interests and foreign corporations is their first priority in the new Congress. The Keystone tar sands pipeline will harm the health of families and children, and it will worsen the impacts of dangerous climate change. Instead of building this pipeline, which will only create 35 permanent jobs, we should pass a long-term transportation bill that will support millions of jobs. I urge the President to veto this bill, because the Keystone tar sands pipeline does nothing for our country and everything for Canadian special interests."
