Boustany Supports Defunding Executive Amnesty

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) supported passage of H.R. 240, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations Act. This legislation funds DHS at $39.7 billion through the end of FY2015 on September 30, 2014, a $400 million increase over FY2014. This increase includes significant additions to border security, immigration enforcement, cyber security, and deterrence funding.

Boustany supported five immigration-related amendments to the overall bill, including an amendment by Representatives Aderholt (R-AL), Mulvaney (R-SC), and Barletta (R-PA) that would prevent the use of funds for implementation of the President's Executive Order on immigration.

Boustany said: "In December, Congress passed a hybrid funding package setting up this fight to defund the President's Executive Order without risking a government shutdown. Today, the House is following through. This legislation ensures no funding may be used to implement the President's action and provides a much-needed funding increase for border security and immigration enforcement. My colleagues and I are sending a strong statement to the White House that we will fight hard, we will fight smart, and we don't plan on losing."
