The U.S. Senate today approved legislation authorizing the application for the Keystone XL pipeline, following House passage of legislation earlier this month. U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power praised the Senate's passage of the legislation and urged the President to reconsider his veto threat.

"I want to thank my fellow Kentuckians, Senator McConnell and Senator Paul, and the United States Senate for passing the Keystone Pipeline bill that will create jobs and fuel our economy," said Whitfield. "I am pleased to see Congress work together in a bipartisan manner to address this issue that has been delayed and awaiting a decision by the President for 2,323 days. The American people overwhelmingly support this project that will create tens of thousands of jobs at no cost to the tax-payer. President Obama should reconsider his veto threat so that we can work together to get this bill over the finish line. "
