Huelskamp Continues to Press for Improvement in Care of our Veterans

Press Release

Date: Jan. 29, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

On Wednesday, Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) participated in the Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Health hearing entitled "Examining the Quality and Cost of VA Health Care." The hearing examined a December 2014 report from the Congressional Budget Office comparing the cost and quality of private sector care to that provided within the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Witnesses from the VA and CBO testified at the hearing.

Following his leading effort to pass the historic VA Choice bill last year, Huelskamp made another attempt to provide transparency into the cost and quality of care for our Veterans. The exchanges can be found here.

"It is imperative that Congress, our Veterans and the public receive data necessary to understand the cost and quality of care offered through the VA compared to the care available in our local communities. Especially if a local hospital and doctor can offer higher quality care at a lower cost than the VA, Washington must allow more Veterans to choose their doctor and their hospital. Veterans and their families in the First District and other rural areas are rightly sick and tired of traveling hundreds of miles to get the care they earned through their service to our nation."
