Washington, DC -- U.S. Representative Tom Rooney (FL-17), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, today voted in favor of the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, legislation that funds critical security and law enforcement programs while blocking implementation of the President's executive order on immigration.

"My constituents have spoken loud and clear: they oppose the President's unilateral action on immigration, and they want us to use every tool we have to stop it," Rooney said. "Our bill will block the President's executive order in its entirety. We need real, long-term solutions to secure our border and modernize our immigration laws. I hope the President will use this opportunity to work with us, rather than acting alone, in defiance of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the will of the American people.

"Our bill helps keep our nation safe by providing needed investments to strengthen our borders and protect American citizens from terrorism. It provides funding for natural disaster response and recovery that is critical for Florida, while maintaining investments in flood mitigation to help Florida homeowners and small businesses prevent damages."

The bill prioritizes frontline security -- including all operational, counterterrorism, and threat-targeting activities, and essential tactical equipment -- and saves taxpayer dollars by reducing overhead costs and cutting funds for lower-priority programs. It includes amendments to block any funds -- including user fees -- from being used to implement the President's immigration executive order.
