Hoyer Encourages Marylanders to Participate in Small Business Saturday

Statement

Date: Nov. 25, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today encouraging Fifth District residents and Marylanders to participate in Small Business Saturday on November 29th, a day dedicated to supporting local businesses:

"I am a strong supporter of small businesses, which are critically important to the economic well-being of Maryland and our entire country. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and play a vital role in our local communities, employing half of our country's workforce and creating nearly two out of every three net new jobs. Small Business Saturday provides an opportunity to support these local economic engines and help to continue their success by shopping locally. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, Maryland alone has more than 500,000 small businesses. These are small businesses that are owned and run by our neighbors - they are families and friends who believe in the American dream and that they can make it in America. I encourage Fifth District residents to join millions of Americans on Saturday, November 29th, in shopping and dining locally to show support for Maryland businesses."
