Press Release

Date: Nov. 18, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22) was elected by members of the Florida and Georgia region to the United States Congress House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.

The primary purpose of the Committee is to assign fellow Democrats to other House Committees and to shape Democratic policies. It is made up of a diverse membership, some selected by region and some appointed by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

"It is an honor to represent Florida and Georgia on the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee," said Frankel. "This is a great opportunity to bring forth a positive agenda that protects our seniors, stands up for veterans, and advances middle class families."

Past Steering and Policy Committees have held hearings on topics that Republicans have refused to hear including gun violence prevention and women's health and contraception. Last year, the panel heard testimony from the Newtown Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Janet Robinson, where the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting took place.

In 2012, the Committee heard testimony from Sandra Fluke, a young woman who was blocked from participating in an Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on access to contraception under the Affordable Health Care Act.
