Tim Sheridan, the Democratic candidate for California's 42nd Congressional District, soundly defeated 20-year incumbent Congressman Ken Calvert in a mock election at Temescal Canyon High School in Lake Elsinore earlier this week. Sheridan earned 56% of the vote against 44% for the long-term incumbent. About 1,500 students cast votes.
"Needless to say," Sheridan said, "I'm grateful for the support that the students showed in our campaign. They recognize, as do voters throughout California's 42nd District, that the gridlock that my opponent has advocated throughout this campaign is not beneficial for anyone. The students want Congress to work together to solve the issues facing the country."
Mr. Calvert has centered his campaign on continuing the gridlock that the government has endured the last few years by promising that he will work to stop the President every chance he can.
"We need someone in Washington representing us who'll be willing to work with Democrats, Republicans and Independents to move the country forward," Sheridan added. "When I'm elected, I pledge that I'll work in a bipartisan manner and that I'll put the needs of the people ahead of politics."
