Sinema Announces $4 Million Grant for ASU

Press Release

Date: Sept. 30, 2014
Location: Phoenix, AZ

Today Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema announced the award of a $3,999,955 grant to Arizona State University to develop innovative strategies allowing first-generation students to pursue and complete postsecondary education. The announcement follows Sinema's July letter in support of ASU's request for the grant.

"Earning a college degree is critical in today's economy. Everyone who works hard and wants to pursue a college education should have the opportunity to do so," said Sinema. "This vital investment allows ASU to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for students and families."

"Arizona State University has nationally competitive and innovative researchers," said ASU President Michael Crow. "In just the past few days our Mary Lou Fulton College of Education researchers have won a total of $16.5 million in competitively awarded grants through three different programs within the Department of Education, including the First in the World program. We thank those in our Congressional delegation, including Congresswoman Sinema, who have supported funding these programs and have been active in our quest to increase the visibility of ASU's nationally competitive researchers."

Under the First in the World (FITW) Program grant, ASU will develop effective strategies to ensure more first-generation students can access and complete their degrees.
