Members of Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus Unanimously Endorse Ross for Governor

Press Release

Each individual member of the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus today endorsed Democratic nominee for governor Mike Ross citing his pledge to fight for all Arkansans and his policy proposals that are designed to empower families and create more opportunities to grow and strengthen Arkansas's middle class. Early voting in Arkansas is currently underway, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4.

"Mike Ross is a bipartisan bridge builder who appreciates Arkansas's rich heritage and understands that our diversity makes us stronger. He will be a governor that will listen to all people," said State Rep. Fred Love, Chair of the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus. "Mike Ross is the only candidate in this race who has detailed policy proposals to grow Arkansas's middle class and to create more opportunities to succeed for all Arkansans, particularly for women and minorities. That's why I am proud to support Mike Ross and honored to also announce that each and every member of the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus unanimously and proudly endorses Mike Ross for governor."

Surrounded by key African American legislative, civic and religious leaders from across the state of Arkansas, Ross said he was grateful for the support

"I am honored and grateful to be surrounded today by so many friends and so many strong, dedicated and passionate leaders who truly care about the future of Arkansas and who represent the heart and soul of our great state," said Ross. "As governor, I will use my experience of bringing people together to unite this state, find common ground and common sense solutions, and build a better, brighter future for every Arkansan -- not just a select few. I'm running for governor because I love my state and the people who call this great state home."

Ross said the plans he has proposed will help all Arkansas, including minorities and women in Arkansas. He touted his support for making pre-k accessible to middle class families, increasing education opportunities, raising the state's minimum wage, supporting the private option, reforming the state's prison and parole processes, reducing domestic violence, and ensuring equal pay for equal work.

"I want Arkansas to be more than just the land of opportunity; I want Arkansas to be the land of equal opportunity," said Ross. "My opponent, Congressman Hutchinson, envisions a different Arkansas. He called these measures to strengthen equal pay laws in Arkansas "far fetched' and said there isn't such a thing as "women's issues.' These comments show just how shockingly out of touch Asa Hutchinson has become and that he's spent too much time in boardrooms and courtrooms and not enough time in living rooms and break rooms. In Congress, Asa was hyperpartisan, playing political games and trying to divide this nation to advance his own career. My time was spent reaching across the aisle to get things done for the folks here in Arkansas, and that's exactly what I'll continue to do as governor."
