U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-32), Chairman of the House Rules Committee and a Member of House Republican Leadership, today released the following statement regarding the commencement of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is honored from September 15 -- October 15:

"Today marks the first day of National Hispanic Heritage Month, a month-long celebration of a rich heritage that has had an immense impact on our local community and nation as a whole. This month gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect upon the many contributions Hispanic Americans have made to our great nation, ranging from the arts, service in the military, and to their strong presence in the business community.

"Around the country and especially in North Texas, Hispanic Americans have influenced our community through their strong commitment to family, hard work, and service. Their unwavering spirit exemplifies the values that encompass the American Dream and the principles upon which our great nation was founded. This month I join all Americans in celebrating the generations of Hispanic Americans whose vast experiences and accomplishments have positively influenced and enriched our communities."
