Boustany Statement on ISIL Resolution

Statement

Date: Sept. 17, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after the House passed a resolution granting President Obama authority to confront ISIL.

Boustany said: "ISIL presents a grave threat to our national security. Two American journalists have been publicly beheaded while senior ISIL leaders openly threaten attacks on the American homeland. I will not stand by and allow our enemies to continue to coalesce until they carry out their stated mission.

"It is important the United States presents one united front against this threat on the international stage. Although I may disagree with the President's handling of this crisis, this is too serious a situation to play political games with the security of American families. It is time that we pull together as one nation to confront and eradicate ISIL.

"This authorization is an important first step -- but it is just one step. The President must form an international coalition taking on substantive responsibilities if we are to fully address this threat. This will not be a short or easy engagement -- but it is the right thing to do for our national security."
