Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) today released the following statement after President Obama announced that the United States will begin considering offensive action against the Islamic State (IS) in Syria:

"I am encouraged to see President Obama taking initial steps towards moving to hit IS in Syria, their home base and launching point," said Kinzinger. "As we begin building a coalition to combat this cancerous extremism, I hope to see consensus form around an aggressive campaign that will render IS not just weakened, but impotent and obsolete."

Kinzinger is a U.S. Air Force veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and currently serves as a Major in the Air National Guard. He is a member of the Foreign Affairs and Energy and Commerce Committees.
