Press Release

Date: Oct. 20, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Jim Renacci (OH-16) and Rep. Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) today sent a letter signed by members of the Ohio delegation to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Director Dr. Tom Frieden requesting support to Ohio and with questions regarding its protocols. The letter asks that the CDC provide any and all necessary support to the state of Ohio, an explanation as to why they allowed a caregiver of an infected person to travel to Ohio, and what changes have been made to ensure the same does not happen in the future. Additionally, the letter asks that the CDC keep all options for containment on the table, including travel screenings and restrictions.

"I am supportive of Governor Kasich's proactive response measures, which are more stringent than the CDC's protocols," said Renacci. "Protecting Ohioans is our top priority, and it is important that Ohio receives the support it needs from the CDC. Additionally, we need answers to ensure that this does not happen again. I am hopeful that Director Frieden will provide us with a timely response outlining why his agency allowed a caregiver of an Ebola patient to travel, and how the CDC will enhance its precedures to prevent it from happening again."
