Rahall Announces Federal Funding to Bolster Crime Fighting in Huntington

Press Release

Date: Sept. 29, 2014
Location: Beckley, WV

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) Monday announced the Department of Justice has awarded $100,000 to the City of Huntington for the development of new crime prevention strategies.

"Last month, I brought Federal drug control officials to Huntington and I was able to show them the community partnerships and leadership we have in place both to address drug abuse and to reduce crime in the City. Our City and law enforcement officials are proving time and again that, when they receive Federal funding, they make wise investments, which is why I am working very hard to ensure that Federal programs that aid our State are preserved," said Rahall.

The planning grant, awarded through the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program, will be used to design community-oriented strategies to reduce crime in a target neighborhood. It will involve identifying distressed neighborhoods and building support within the community to increase law enforcement and crime prevention.
