U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) Monday announced that the Oak Hill Police Department has been awarded a nearly $107,000 COPS grant to hire a new police officer.

"Oak Hill police officers are on the front lines of public safety, which is why this funding is so important to help bolster their ranks and strengthen community policing. I am working very hard to ensure that our State and local law enforcement personnel receive the Federal resources and support they need to protect our neighborhoods and communities and save lives," said Rahall.

The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice Community-Oriented Policing Services Program (COPS) Hiring Program. The grants can be used to fill law enforcement officer positions, with an emphasis on hiring veterans, and build trust between the police and community.
