Feinstein Statement on Signing of AB 1014

Statement

Date: Sept. 30, 2014
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement after California Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 1014, a bill to allow family members and law enforcement officers to petition a court to temporarily prohibit a person who poses a significant danger of committing harm from possessing a gun:

"I applaud Governor Brown for signing AB 1014. This bill, authored by Assemblymember Nancy Skinner, will empower families to take action to keep guns out of the hands of loved ones who pose a risk of violence.

"This year's mass shooting near Santa Barbara left six dead and 13 wounded. The gunman's mother saw signs that her son was a danger, yet she was powerless to prevent him from possessing firearms--even temporarily. AB 1014 will change that, allowing family members and law enforcement officers to take steps to temporarily prohibit dangerous individuals from possessing firearms."
