Gov. Beshear Celebrates Grand Opening of Four Roses Bourbon's New Visitor Center

Press Release

Date: Sept. 30, 2014
Location: Cox's Creek, KY

Governor Steve Beshear today joined Four Roses Bourbon executives and local leaders to open the bourbon brand's new visitor center at the Cox's Creek Warehouse and Bottling Facility in Bullitt County.

It is Four Roses' second destination on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail®.

The newly constructed 2,500-square-foot visitor center, located off of KY 245 in Cox's Creek, expects to attract more than 20,000 guests annually, and will create a dozen new local jobs.

The $500,000 expansion features antique bottles, vintage advertising and other memorabilia from the Four Roses archives. An enhanced tour, which runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the hour, will emphasize operations at the facility, including warehousing, barrelling and bottling. The visitor center also includes a premium bourbon tasting bar that allows guests the opportunity to sample Four Roses products following a tour.

"Four Roses' new visitor center is an exciting addition to Kentucky's rich bourbon heritage," said Gov. Beshear. "As we continue to grow awareness for our bourbon culture, we look forward to welcoming visitors from across the country and the world to Four Roses and the entire Kentucky Bourbon Trail."

The addition of the new visitor center expands Four Roses' presence on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. The historic Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg already has one of the state's most popular visitor experiences, with a 5,000-square-foot visitor center and tour showcasing Four Roses' process of distilling 10 unique bourbon recipes to create award-winning small batch and single barrel bourbons.

"We're so proud of our history and our unique process, and we enjoy sharing that with our visitors," said John Rhea, Four Roses chief operating officer. "We intend to build on our success and continue to support the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, as well as our local community for many years to come."

The 126-year-old Four Roses brand has received numerous awards in recent years, including being named "American Distiller of the Year" four of the last five years by Whisky Magazine.

"I am excited about the opening of the Four Roses visitor center," said Sen. Jimmy Higdon, of Lebanon. "It will create good jobs, provide a boost to our local tourism industry and further showcase this region's unique bourbon heritage."

"Four Roses is allowing the world the opportunity to experience one of the pleasures that makes Kentucky uniquely Kentucky," said Sen. Dan Seum. "Congratulations to Four Roses, and many thanks as they continue to make our state a household name worldwide."

"This is a very important day for tourism and economic development in Bullitt County," said Shepherdsville Mayor Scott Ellis. "Bourbon has played such an important part in our history. It is a great day for the restaurants and hotels in the area. Tourist attractions such as this increase jobs. Thank you, Mr. Rhea for your commitment to the area."

"We're thrilled that even more people will be discovering Four Roses through this new warehousing and bottling experience at Cox's Creek, adding yet another Kentucky Bourbon Trail attraction to our great county," said Bullitt County Judge-Executive Melanie Roberts. "We look forward to visitors from all over the world taking a "mellow moment' here at Cox's Creek -- because Bullitt County is a wonderful place to stop, smell and taste the roses."

"We are excited to be able to add another bourbon experience in our area," said Bardstown Mayor Bill Sheckles. "We congratulate Four Roses on this new visitor center that will educate thousands of visitors each year on the history of their great products."

"Our region continues to grow by enhancing the rich history of the bourbon industry and defining the art of making great Kentucky bourbon," said Nelson County Judge- Executive Dean Watts. "We thank Four Roses for this continued reinvestment in our communities."
