House and Senate Illinois Democratic lawmakers requested an investigation of the Federal Aviation Administration's security procedures at air traffic control facilities following two fires.

The lawmakers, Sen. Dick Durbin and Reps. Tammy Duckworth, Bill Foster, Mike Quigley, Jan Schakowsky and Dan Lipinski, were concerned following two fires at the air traffic control center in Aurora, Ill. this year that resulted in a multitude of flight delays.

"These recent outbreaks are of great concern, and we encourage you to ensure adequate protocols, emergency plans, and security measures are in place to help prevent and mitigate the impact of these emergencies," they wrote.
