Peters Statement on Labor Day

Statement

Date: Aug. 29, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Gary Peters (MI-14) released the following statement recognizing the Labor Day holiday and Michigan's contributions to the American Dream:

"As we join friends and family this weekend to celebrate Labor Day, it is important for us to honor the legacy and leadership of Michigan's workers and the innovation that helped build our middle class. The American labor movement helped pave the way for hard won rights, benefits and protections that support our middle class, including the 40-hour workweek, paid leave and the minimum wage.

"Today, Michigan is home to a talented workforce that continues to lead the way as we rebuild and revitalize Michigan's economy for the 21st century. They are a proud example of the benefits of investing in our workers to create jobs, build a strong middle class and drive economic opportunity for all Americans. This Labor Day, I hope you will join me in celebrating the strength of Michigan's workers and the tremendous role they play in building a better economy and a brighter future for our state and our nation."
