Press Release

Date: Sept. 23, 2014
Location: Mineola, NY

Democratic congressional candidate Kathleen Rice (NY-04) was endorsed today by U.S. Senator Charles Schumer. At a joint press conference in the district's Five Towns community, Schumer spoke to Rice's unique qualifications for the position and provided his proud and full endorsement for Rice to replace outgoing Rep. Carolyn McCarthy in Congress. Schumer highlighted Rice's dedication to community and the middle class, stellar legal experience, commitment to protecting the United States from terror threats like ISIS, and steadfast advocacy for the state of Israel as critical qualifications for the congressional seat. After speaking to the media, Schumer and Rice greeted constituents and shoppers at Gourmet Glatt Emporium in Cedarhurst.

"I'm proud to endorse Kathleen Rice and offer her my full support in this congressional race," said U.S. Senator Charles Schumer. "Kathleen has proven throughout her time as District Attorney that she'll do whatever it takes to solve problems for the people she serves, and that's the kind of representative this district needs right now in Washington. Kathleen's background and record of independence make her well prepared to help confront the complex challenges at home, protecting and growing the middle class, and abroad in the Middle East, including protecting our homeland from terrorist groups like ISIS and defending the state of Israel. I have no doubt Kathleen Rice will always make her voice heard when it comes to defending every corner of this congressional district, and I look forward to her joining me in the halls of Congress."

"I'm honored to have Senator Schumer's support in this race, and I look forward to working with him and learning from him if I'm elected to represent our district in Congress," said Kathleen Rice. "Our country faces a lot of challenges right now, at home and abroad, and we must be prepared to confront those challenges with strength and courage. We must be prepared to do whatever it takes to protect our country and our interests and allies overseas, and there can be no doubt about our commitment to Israel. Israel is our closest military and diplomatic ally in the Middle East, and we must continue to strengthen the unique bond between our nations."
