Cassidy Introduces Charter Flight Transparency Resolution

Press Release

Date: Sept. 15, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy (R-LA) announced he introduced a resolution that would require both Members of the U.S. House and Senate to report when Congressional funds are used for private chartered planes. Information, including the purpose of the flight and the cost to taxpayers, must be reported within 30 days of the flight.

Dr. Cassidy offered the following statement:

"Taking charter planes unnecessarily is a waste of Americans' hard-earned tax dollars. It makes no sense to fly on a $3,000 private jet if you can get to the same location in a few hours' drive time and a $50 tank of gas. Washington's spending is out of control and this is one of the reasons why. Ensuring that Washington is transparent and tax dollars are spent wisely is a priority."

Dr. Cassidy has consistently pushed for more government transparency and less wasteful spending. Previously, he introduced the Eliminating Government-Funded Oil-Painting (EGO) Act to prohibit tax dollars from being used for commemorative oil portraits of federal administration officials and Members of Congress, which often cost tens of thousands of dollars.
