Today, volunteers gathered at the home of senior citizen and retired teacher Ms. Mohammed to hold a phone bank in support of Rep. Joe Garcia's work to protect Medicare for seniors.

The event follows a recent article revealing video of Carlos Curbelo with Republicans in Washington calling Medicare and Social Security a "Ponzi-Scheme."

"Rep. Garcia is putting our seniors first in Washington -- fighting back against the Tea Party budget that the AARP says ends the Medicare guarantee, and even standing up to the President to stop his proposed cuts to Medicare. But Carlos Curbelo's comment that Medicare and Social Security is a "Ponzi-Scheme' is extremely disappointing -- it's important that other seniors know that Rep. Joe Garcia is the right choice to continue protecting our Medicare and Social Security," said Mrs. Mohammed.

"Carlos Curbelo has made it clear that he is putting himself and his Tea Party politics over South Florida seniors. The same day that Curbelo was in Washington D.C. calling Medicare and Social Security a "Ponzi-Scheme', I was speaking at a rally with hundreds of seniors to protect Social Security and Medicare. Grassroots events like this phone bank are a great way for South Floridians to spread the word about the issues that are important in this election -- like protecting Medicare and Social Security -- and the neighbor-to-neighbor conversations we are having are exactly how we are going to win this election," said Rep. Garcia at the phone bank.

Last week, Rep. Garcia joined hundreds of seniors at a rally to speak out on behalf of seniors and oppose cuts to Medicare and Social Security. On that same day, Carlos Curbelo was speaking to Republicans in Washington D.C. calling Medicare and Social Security a "Ponzi-Scheme."
