Cornyn Statement on Attorney General Eric Holder

Press Release

Date: Sept. 25, 2014

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) issued the following statement in response to reports that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will step down:

"Unfortunately the American people, myself included, lost confidence in the Attorney General's ability to lead a long time ago because of his continued willingness to put politics before the law.

"The nation deserves an Attorney General whose loyalty to the justice system will trump loyalty to a political party, and I hope the President will nominate someone who will uphold the basic standards of honesty, transparency, and accountability that have been so glaringly absent in this Justice Department."

Sen. Cornyn previously called on the Attorney General to resign after he refused to answer questions on the gun-walking operation known as "Fast and Furious," held back thousands of critical records requested by Congressional committees, and failed to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate possible coordinated, politically-motivated leaks of classified information by the Obama Administration.
