Issue Position

Today there are more federal regulations on the books than any other time in our nation's history. This blizzard of regulations, in many cases, is the Administration's way of bypassing Congress and imposing its will through the back door. Mac is a strong advocate for simplifying, streamlining, and opening up the regulatory process to prevent or reduce overreach by the federal government.

Whether it is Obamacare, the EPA's Farm Dust rule, Dodd-Frank financial regulations, or Endangered Species listings, these rules are driving up costs for consumers and businesses, while also driving down economic growth and our country's competitiveness.

Mac has actively fought a long list of overly-intrusive regulations. He has co-sponsored a number of regulatory reform bills, and he has voted for those and other measures aimed at reining in regulation and forcing agencies to consider the cost on our businesses.

Being a strong voice means opposing rules and regulations that create unnecessary hurdles and unfairly burden farmers and ranchers. This includes the so-called "Youth ag" rule that would have prevented youth from working on area farms and ranches as they have for generations, as well as various overzealous attempts to list species as "endangered" or "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act.

In 2013, Mac introduced a bill to limit attempts by the EPA to regulate water on private land. Senator Rand Paul introduced a companion bill in the Senate.
