Issue Position

There's no dispute: health care is a basic human right.

As your congressperson, I will fight to guarantee that everyone in America has access to quality health care, as outlined in The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act. It is about time our great country joined the most civilized nations on earth in making its citizens health a priority. It's just the right thing to do.

Let's follow through on the core focus of the Patient Protection Affordable Healthcare Act. That means guaranteeing that even people with pre-existing conditions can get insurance. That means protecting the chronically ill from being shut out of treatment due to lifetime caps on coverage. That means giving every American the right to take their children to a doctor when they become ill. That means not abandoning our elderly after they've committed so much hard work and love to our country.

There aren't many people in America who disagree with the importance of these core values, although my opponent sure tries to dance around the issue with his fellow Republicans in Washington. From what I can see, he believes in everything about The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act except the fact that President Obama instituted it. His words tell the truth: Posey's not against health care -- he's against Democrats. He's not for America -- he's against Democrats. He's not thinking of District 8 -- he's thinking about advancing his own political power. This is the tired, unproductive stance the Republicans have taken for the last 6 years. Enough is enough. It's time to grow up and work together as a team for our great country.

Sure, the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act has its flaws. And I'll work to fix them. I'll take positive steps while Republicans, such as my opponent, work overtime to point out problems, without offering any solutions. Over ten million people have enrolled for insurance since the rollout, despite a vicious partisan effort to keep the numbers low.

So far, Republicans have wasted about 75 million of our taxpayer dollars trying to shut the PPACA down. Of course they haven't succeeded, because The Affordable Care Act is the will of the people. We need representatives in Washington who will look to the future, not the past. I'm your man.

As your congressman, I will work tirelessly to strengthen the PPACA. I'll push insurance providers to focus on innovative treatments, as well as profits. No loopholes and no exceptions. I'll push the idea of prevention, as well as cure, because avoiding an illness in the first place is nearly always cheaper than fixing it later. I will vote to continue the tax incentives put in place to help families get coverage, as well as helping small and medium sized businesses cover their employees. The more people who have insurance, the less each of us will have to pay.

And as for Medicare, I will wholeheartedly oppose any plans to privatize this bastion of great governance. Republicans have squandered our future by trying to balance budgets on the backs of our seniors -- the very people among us who are most in need of quality care. As your voice in Washington, I'll make it impossible for these vultures to loot the Social Security trust fund, gutting Medicare and other programs that keep our seniors healthy. Medicare is the best method to deliver the individual choice for care, in an affordable fashion to our wisest citizens.

Our country was founded with a government for the people and by the people. That means we provide services that keep the country healthy, like roads and schools and weather forecasting and support for our farmers and space program. That's not an example of nefarious socialism, that's good government. And guaranteed health care is part and parcel of it.

Remember, health is wealth, and I'm going to protect yours.
