Blog: Bipartisan Results: Getting the Job Done for Southwest Michigan (Part 2)

Statement

Last week I began a new series highlighting some of my committee's many bipartisan successes and the positive impact these bills have on folks here in Southwest Michigan. This week I would like to talk with you about H.R. 297, the Children's Hospital GME Support Reauthorization Act of 2013.

The Children's Hospital Graduate Medical Education Support Reauthorization Act ensures an adequate number of trained pediatricians and pediatric specialists are available to treat our kids in Southwest Michigan and communities across the country. A doctor shortage would have a real impact on the health of our children, and this bill helps ensure we have a sufficient number of medical professionals able to keep our kids healthy and safe.

Why does this bill matter? Simply put: Healthy kids lead to healthy communities. This bill is a win for Southwest Michigan families, jobs, and our future. Nearly 50 percent of pediatricians and pediatric specialists are trained through this important program.

The Children's Hospital GME Support Reauthorization Act of 2013 was signed into law on April 8, 2014 (Public Law No: 113-98).
