As a proud 26-year Air Force veteran, Johnson is grateful to America's heroes - those who willingly risk their lives to serve our country and protect our freedoms. Johnson also believes that our support must continue after these heroes are welcomed back home - ensuring that our veterans and their families receive the benefits, care, and services that they have earned through their sacrifices and now deserve is one of his top priorities.

Johnson has authored and supported numerous bills to ensure that our veterans, their families and survivors are receiving the health care, educational and job training opportunities, and other benefits to which they are entitled. Johnson is also dedicated to finding solutions to the Department of Veterans Affairs' disability claims backlog to ensure that our veterans are not waiting months - or even years - to receive these crucial benefits.

This Congress, Johnson introduced H.R. 894, legislation to reform the VA's fiduciary program and protect vulnerable veterans from fraud and abuse, and has also authored H.R. 1357 to increase job training opportunities for unemployed veterans under the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program.

During the last Congress, Johnson had his "Veterans Health Care Facilities Capital Improvement Act" signed into law. This important new law provides necessary funds for VA hospital construction and renovation projects.

Johnson also introduced the "World War II Memorial Prayer Act" that would require a plaque or inscription with the words President Franklin Roosevelt prayed with the nation on June 6, 1944, the morning of D-Day be placed on the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC. This legislation recently passed Congress and has been signed in to law.
