Issue Position: U.S. Military and Federal Budget

Issues: Defense

A strong military should be supported. However, all budgets in the federal government should be examined, including the Department of Defense. A significant part of defense spending is military pensions, and we can't cut the pensions for wounded servicemen and women from Iraq and Afghanistan. What we need to do is change our concept of weapons systems. We need to plan for the next confrontation, not the last. We need highly trained forces such as Navy Seals and Delta Force who can effectively deal with threats against the United States in a dangerous world. The best way to afford a strong military is to have a strong and growing economy.
