Issue Position: Roads, Bridges, Schools, Levees For Today and Tomorrow

Issue Position

Our infrastructure is rapidly aging because of years of insufficient investment; in Washington I'll change that. We can make smart investments today that create immediate constructions jobs and also make sure we have the infrastructure we need for tomorrow.

Fix Our Schools

The average U.S. school is 42 years old, and a fourth of schools were built before 1950. It's clear that we need a concerted effort to modernize our local schools, and in doing so we can put a lot of people back to work. This will give our kids a better learning environment for tomorrow and create jobs today.

Roads, Bridges, and Transportation

There is no clearer indication of how broken Washington is than the recent failure to pass a transportation bill. For every dollar we invest in infrastructure we get more than three back over the life of the project. For decades members of both parties knew how important this was but today Washington has gotten so partisan even our roads are now a political issue.

Infrastructure Bank

We need a renewed focus on infrastructure that builds it in a smart and affordable way by creating a public-private partnership infrastructure bank. This type of program has had long standing bi-partisan support but has never actually gotten off the ground.

Build America Bonds

This program allows state and local governments to issue bonds at a discounted rate as long as the money is used for important Infrastructure programs. As long as they are properly monitored I support programs like this that allow for a strong state and federal partnership to expand investment in Infrastructure.
