U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) released the following statement today upon news that Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe has created a task force to combat sexual violence at the Commonwealth's colleges and universities. Sen. Warner and a bipartisan group of seven Senate colleagues recently introduced legislation to combat sexual assault on college and university campuses. The Campus Accountability and Safety Act will help to better protect and empower students, improve reporting, training and best practices, and strengthen transparency and accountability of educational institutions.

"I'm pleased to see the Governor and Virginia universities working together to put an end to sexual assault on college campuses in Virginia. We all must work together to send a clear signal that enough is enough." Sen. Warner said. "This issue is incredibly important to me as a father as well as a Senator, and I fully expect the task force's recommendations will help us improve our efforts in the Senate to combat campus sexual assault."
