U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that three Maine fire departments will receive federal grants through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AGF) for vehicle acquisition and operations and safety purposes. The Skowhegan Fire Department will receive $134,866 to help purchase 18 self-contained breathing apparatuses. The Brownfield Volunteer Fire Department will receive $238,000 to help acquire a water tanker fire truck, and the Bridgewater Fire Department will receive $24,909 to help purchase personal protective gear.

"These grants play a vital role in supporting fire departments across Maine, like those in Skowhegan, Brownfield and Bridgewater, as well as the dedicated fire and rescue personnel who serve our communities," Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. "These funds will help provide rescue personnel with the appropriate resources necessary to perform their important duties."

AFG grants are administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
