Noem and U.S. House Move to Finalize VA Reform Agreement

Statement

Date: July 30, 2014

Rep. Kristi Noem today joined the U.S. House of Representatives in approving a Veterans Affairs reform agreement that will offer support for veteran care and greater accountability within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Upon the Senate's final approval, the legislation will be sent to the President for his signature.

"In far too many cases, our Veterans Affairs health care system has failed to show this nation's gratitude," said Rep. Noem. "While I would have liked to see negotiations move more quickly, I am pleased that the House and Senate worked together on behalf of the women and men who have served. This legislation offers pathways for patients to receive better and accelerated care. It also targets those responsible for the gross mismanagement within the VA. This is a starting point and I will be watching implementation carefully and ensuring any further action necessary to improve care for veterans is taken."

The Conference Report on H.R.3230, which is an agreement made between Senate and House leadership, aims to improve access to and quality of care for veterans, expand the VA's internal capacity to provide timely care to veterans, provide accountability for incompetent or corrupt managers, and improve education benefits for veterans and dependents.
