Rep. Loretta Sanchez Releases Statement on Iraq

Statement

Date: Aug. 8, 2014
Location: Garden Grove, CA

Rep. Loretta Sanchez (CA-46), senior member or the House Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement on the Administration's actions on Iraq.

"Our number one concern should be the safety of American citizens on the ground in Iraq and I understand the Administration's decision today to ensure that mission. However, any further action must come with real and meaningful consultation from the Congress. I do support the decision to provide assistance to the innocent Iraqis facing potential genocide, a crime to humanity that we cannot tolerate especially when we have the ready means to do so.

"We know that our military intervention will not alone solve the long sectarian and religious conflicts in Iraq. It is essential we avoid mission creep because our men and women in uniform cannot endure another war in Iraq and nor can the American people. It is on the shoulders of the Iraqi people to create real and lasting peace through an inclusive government that represents and respects all groups. Maliki, or his successor, must unite his country and stop the terrorist group ISIS on both a political and military level."
