Issue Position: Health Care Access and Quality

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

As Senator, Ryan Fattman will work to reinstitute Massachusetts's universal healthcare law from 2006 instead of implementing the Affordable Care Act in it's entirety. Massachusetts led the way to universal healthcare with bipartisan support. Ninety-eight percent of Massachusetts Resident were covered with health insurance. However, on June 19, 2013, the Massachusetts legislature voted to pursue the President's Affordable Care Act. The result for Massachusetts residents were and are disastrous as "Obamacare" forced 250,000 residents off their Massachusetts health insurance plans because they no longer met the minimum thresholds for coverage. Implementing "Obamacare" in our State has cost Massachusetts taxpayers nearly $250 Million at a time when resources are scarce. Massachusetts should receive a waiver from the Affordable Care Act, and go back to the Massachusetts universal healthcare law where 98% of our residents were insured.
