Walden Urges Renewable Energy Development at Christmas Valley Radar Site

Letters to BLM, Air Force request that existing power transmission infrastructure remains while evaluation of potential energy options

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Congressman Greg Walden (R-OR) last week sent letters to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Air Force (USAF) requesting that equipment currently at an Air Combat Command Radar Transmitter site in Christmas Valley be left in place so that it may be evaluated as a potential location for renewable energy development. Such development would help reduce our nation's dependency on oil while creating jobs and economic development in the northern part of Lake County.

"The development of renewable energy sources is critical to our future," said Walden, vice-chair of the House Renewable Energy Caucus and co-chair of the Northwest Energy Caucus, both bipartisan organizations. "It would be a shame to let existing infrastructure go to waste without first evaluating the potential for energy development at the site, especially given that this region holds so much promise for solar, wind and other low-cost, renewable power."
