Issue Position: Seniors

Issue Position

Derek Kilmer knows firsthand that our nation has an obligation to take care of our older Americans. His 104-year-old grandmother has been able to live with dignity for years because of the existence of two of the most successful public policy programs in American history -- Medicare and Social Security. He believes America must uphold its promises to our seniors.

Derek opposes attempts to privatize Social Security and will work to ensure that it continues to be available well into the future so all seniors can retire with dignity.

In Congress, Derek has stood up against efforts to end the Medicare guarantee. He is fighting to help all elderly patients access the Medicare benefits they have earned. He understands that Medicare can be strengthened for the future by getting a handle on medical inflation and by cracking down on fraud.

Derek continues to fight attempts to gut services like Meals on Wheels and Housing for Elderly programs that have proven essential for the region's seniors. He also supports plans to bolster nutrition programs and expand access to health centers for seniors.
