Date: July 21, 2014
Location: Greensboro, NC

Today, the Kay Hagan campaign launched "African Americans For Kay," a grassroots group of supporters across the state who are standing up for Kay for her record of results for North Carolina's families. The group will focus on Kay's commitment to putting the middle class and North Carolina first by organizing members across the state and building grassroots momentum for her campaign.

"I am honored to have the support of North Carolinians across our state who are ready to stand with me this November," said Kay. "There is nothing more important than strong families and communities and that is why I work hard each and every day in Washington to represent all families across North Carolina. I am proud to have the support of African American communities and leaders across our state and will continue fighting for policies that benefit North Carolina families, such as boosting our economy, improving our education system and protecting everyone's fundamental right to vote."

Dr. Howard Allen Chubbs, Former U.S. Representative Eva Clayton, Commissioner Dr. Jeannette Council, Mayor Bill Bell, Keith Sutton, Bishop George Battle, Nick Rhodes, and State Senator Earline Parmon will serve as statewide co-chairs for the group.

"We are proud to stand with Kay because of her commitment to North Carolina families across our state," the co-chairs said in a joint statement. "From supporting millions for North Carolina's Historically Black Colleges and Universities to taking action to ensure everyone's right to vote, Kay has a proven record of results for North Carolina's African American communities. Kay is a voice for commonsense values and bipartisan problem solving and with so much at stake in this election, we are committed to Kay's campaign and making sure that she is re-elected in November."
