100 Reasons, Day #91: It is Our Duty to Protect Environment While Growing Economy
The state of the environment is a crucial one that must be addressed. The number of severe weather events are increasing and North Carolina sits at a vulnerable point on the Atlantic Ocean, making us more susceptible to both winter weather storms as well as tropical storms and hurricanes. Rapid sea level rise continues to pose a threat to our coastal communities. North Carolina's natural beauty and resources continue to make this a great state to live, work, and raise a family and that beauty must be protected. Our main economic generators of tourism, agriculture, forestry, and real estate require our environment to be relatively unspoiled. It is our duty as responsible citizens of North Carolina and of the Earth to find sustainable solutions that benefit both the environment and our economy, especially in light of recent issues such as hydraulic fracturing and coal ash spills.
A vote for Cleary is a vote in support of environmental protection as well as economic growth. George Holding has consistently low ratings from environmental groups. For example, the League of Conservation Voters noted that Mr. Holding has only voted for environmentally-friendly legislation 4% of the time.
I also encourage you to research North Carolina Congressman David Price's efforts on this subject.
