Issue Position: Empower Parents to Fix our Schools

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

I helped expand science, math, engineering and technology offerings as President of the Youth Science Center.

I also serve on the Executive Board of the Cal Poly Pomona-Partners in Education where I advocate for improved teacher training.

My experience in education has taught me that empowering parents, teachers and principals to make decisions about school policies is essential to building good schools.

We also need to cut the $400,000 UC salaries that have helped drive up the cost of higher education.

California should also require state universities and colleges to create affordable, guaranteed four-year degree programs where students are offered the classes necessary to graduate in an appropriate time frame.
