"Our Country needs to put of a big sign that reads, "Open for Business!" . . . and we need to mean it. It takes a free society to be prosperous and we need to have the courage to reclaim that free society." -- U.S. Congressman Kerry Bentivolio

As a member of the House Committee on Small Business, I work tirelessly to improve the tax and regulatory environment for America's small businesses which create 2 out of every 3 new jobs in America.

Problem: Bureaucracy and Over-Regulation Limit Innovation and Investment

Solution: Cut the Bureaucracy and Regulations to allow American innovation will get us out of this recession. We all know that a Washington bureaucrat won't pick the next Henry Ford or Steve Jobs. We can encourage entrepreneurs by leveling the playing field through the tax code and getting rid of needless regulations that have small business owners spending more time with an accountant or a lawyer than with their customers.

The Bentivolio Record

Since taking office, Rep. Bentivolio has:

-Introduced the Protect Small Business Jobs Act, which would offer all American small businesses a six-month grace period to clear up a first-time regulatory infraction before being hit with crippling sanctions and fines

-Cosponsored HR 168, the Small Business Freedom of Commerce Act, which allows a small business operating in the United States to elect to be exempt from any federal rule or regulation issued on or after January 20, 2009

-Cosponsored HR 309, the Regulatory Sunset and Review Act, which requires federal agencies to review their covered rules and modify, consolidate, or terminate such rules on a periodic basis

Problem: High Unemployment

Solution: We need to cut taxes now. Our high taxes make it cheaper to do business in foreign countries at times. Along with cutting regulations, we can make the business environment in the U.S. more competitive by cutting taxes. We must have tax reform that makes the tax code flatter, fairer, simpler, and smaller. Business shouldn't come down to who has the biggest lobbying budget.

The Bentivolio Record

Since taking office, Rep. Bentivolio has:

-Cosponsored HR 352, the Tax Code Termination Act, which terminates the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 after December 31, 2017, except for self-employment taxes, Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) taxes, and railroad retirement taxes. HR 352 declares that any new federal tax system should be a simple and fair system that: (1) applies a low rate to all Americans, (2) provides tax relief for working Americans, (3) protects the rights of taxpayers and reduces tax collection abuses, (4) eliminates the bias against savings and investment, (5) promotes economic growth and job creation, and (6) does not penalize marriage or families. It requires that the new federal tax system be approved by Congress in its final form by July 4, 2017.

-Cosponsored HR 582, the Healthcare Tax Relief and Mandate Repeal Act, which terminates the ObamaCare mandate that individuals and employers purchase health insurance coverage for themselves and dependents.

-Cosponsored HR 782, the Permanently Repeal the Estate Tax Act, which permanently repeals the death tax and protects family-owned small businesses from being destroyed by a death in the family.

-Cosponsored HR 901, the Tax Return Due Date Simplification and Modernization Act, which would establish a logical set of due dates focused on promoting a chronologically-correct flow of information between pass-through entities and their owners and beneficiaries, encourage the early filing of more business and individual returns, relieve workload compression surrounding the September 15 tax return deadline, better enable K-1 recipients to submit timely, accurate returns, and reduce the need for extended and amended returns.

Problem: Crony Capitalism Hurts Job-Creating Small and Midsized Businesses

Solution: When government picks winners and losers, giving subsidies to a few select companies, every other person and business pays the difference. Government bureaucrats should not be allowed to gamble our money on their friends' businesses. That is exactly what the current administration did with Solyndra, and it cost taxpayers more than five hundred million dollars.

Too many politicians are bought and sold in this way. It rarely produces a benefit for our society as a whole. When we treat all of our businesses the same, we encourage success that is based on results--not government paybacks.

The Bentivolio Record

Since taking office, Rep. Bentivolio has not supported a single piece of legislation that creates new subsidies for any one business or class of businesses.
