Culberson Protects Taxpayers and Property Owners on Richmond and Post Oak

Statement

Congressman John Culberson (TX-07) said the following after the House of Representatives passed the FY 2015 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill by a vote of 229 to 192:

"I promised my constituents along Richmond Avenue and Post Oak Boulevard that I would preserve their quality of life and protect them from unwanted rail lines through their neighborhood.

"I will continue to support transportation solutions--rail, road, or otherwise--that are cost-effective and have the backing of the communities that they serve. The proposed rail lines on Richmond and Post Oak don't pass this common-sense test: they are unaffordable, they are unwanted by the residents and business owners who live or own property on those streets, and Richmond was not approved by voters. Finally, we don't have the money for this project. METRO has said so, Mayor Parker has said so, and financial audits have said so. This bill will prevent METRO from building more rail than the taxpayers can afford."
