Congressman Dennis Moore always used to say, "90% of what we do in Congress shouldn't be about Republicans or Democrats. It should be about doing what's right for our people and our country."
The current system seems to have that percentage totally reversed. Nothing can get accomplished without practical problem solving. We know what it is to be a Kansan and to be creative, determined, and pragmatic. These values belong in Washington.
There is too much gamesmanship taking place in DC. Our current representation in the U.S. Senate subscribes to the belief that for one side to win, the other side has to lose. It is time for a renewal of the moderate leadership Kansas was used to when government served the interest of the people -- not the career politicians.
We're pragmatic like President Dwight David Eisenhower who envisioned a highway system that would become the backbone of our national economy. We're dreamers like Amelia Earhart who inspired wonder by chasing the sky's horizon. We're determined and creative like Langston Hughes, who refused to accept the status quo and instead, used his talent to help us see a new way forward. Creative, determined, and pragmatic -- that's who we are.
