Issues: Immigration

I have taught citizenship classes to hard-working men and women determined to swear their allegiance to our flag and country, willing to spend their hard-earned income to hear me lecture on history and politics so they could pass their test. I have the greatest respect for those who make their way honestly and legally in a foreign land. Immigration has blessed our country, but it must not come pell-mell. We are not a nation if we lack borders, and we will not remain one if we lose our common tongue. Teaching English must be the first priority of our schools, and facility in English remains essential for citizenship, success, and participation in our democracy.
