Reid Statement On Nevada's June Employment Report

Statement

Date: July 18, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement today on Nevada's June employment report. According to the Nevada State Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, the Nevada unemployment rate dropped to 7.7% from 7.9% in May.

"It is good news to see our state's unemployment situation continue to improve. Employment growth in Nevada has been positive for the past 42 months and I am encouraged by our progress. However, to continue this growth we must keep bringing jobs to Nevada. In the Senate, I will continue to push for legislation benefiting Nevada's economy, like the 2012 transportation bill. With this bill we successfully brought thousands of jobs back to Nevada with the creation of Interstate 11. I also will not give up on comprehensive immigration reform. This bipartisan legislation that we worked tirelessly to get through the Senate will boost Nevada's economy by $325 million and reduce our deficit by nearly a trillion. Finally, this coming week in the Senate I will fight to pass the "Bring Jobs Home Act.' The "Bring Jobs Home Act' will bring new jobs to Nevada by incentivizing Nevadan companies who have taken jobs overseas to bring them back the Silver State. We have a lot of work ahead of us to ensure that Nevada continues to come out of the economic crisis. This report once again shows we are on the right path. I will keep working to make sure we stay on that path and all Nevadan's see the economic prosperity they deserve."
