House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement today after the House passed H.R. 4719, the bipartisan America Gives More Act of 2014, which combines five separate bills that increase charitable giving and make permanent several important tax provisions.
"Americans have always been the most charitable people in the world -- giving both their time and money to those in need. Today, the House voted to encourage these generous contributions by making charitable tax exemptions permanent. People understand the needs of their neighbors far better than large government programs do. Today is a victory for people in need around our country, who will now gain greater access to resources, such as food banks and donations. I applaud Representatives Tom Reed (R-NY), Jim Gerlach (R-PA), Mike Kelly (R-PA, and Erik Pauslen (R-MN) who worked together to create a stronger giving system. Today the House acted to support those across the country who give themselves -- fully and selflessly -- to their communities and their neighbors."
