Colorado's Surrogate Governors: Bloomberg, Polis, and Obama

Press Release

Date: July 10, 2014
Issues: Guns

Today, buffalo rancher and proven business leader, Bob Beauprez, spoke out against former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's arrogant, condescending and ignorant comments on Colorado.

In the July 8th Rolling Stone, Michael Bloomberg said:

"In Colorado, we got a law passed. The NRA went after two or three state Senators in a part of Colorado where I don't think there's roads. It's as far rural as you can get. And, yes, they lost recall elections. I'm sorry for that. We tried to help 'em. But the bottom line is, the law is on the books, and being enforced."

After reading Bloomberg's condescending remarks, Bob Beauprez responded:

"Just for the record, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Jefferson County all have roads. I just traveled them. Michael Bloomberg's infuriatingly ignorant remarks show how far removed he is from Colorado, and how wrong John Hickenlooper was to let Bloomberg force his radical agenda on Colorado.

"It's pathetic a New York City Mayor had more influence in our governor's office than our state's sheriffs.

"Last year, we had surrogate Governor Michael Bloomberg. Now this year it's apparently surrogate Governor Jared Polis. And when the push comes to shove from Washington, it's always surrogate Governor Obama. That's wrong. When one person dictates to the governor of a state just because of the size of his wallet and his own personal agenda, that's wrong.

"We need a governor who will stand up for ALL of Colorado and lead."

Beauprez Campaign Manager, Dustin Olson, said the following:

"Bloomberg convinced John Hickenlooper to sign the anti-second amendment laws that John Hickenlooper now himself admits he didn't fully understand, called them stupid, said he shouldn't have signed them, apologized for signing them, said he'd sign them again, and if that's not enough, lied to our sheriffs about talking to Michael Bloomberg in the first place."

"Dismissing historic recalls of sitting legislators by saying they took place in districts that don't even have roads shows Michael Bloomberg doesn't have a clue about Colorado. But after John Hickenlooper called Colorado "backwards" and said rural Colorado "required some inconvenience," you wonder whether he really even understands Colorado.

"The people of Colorado deserve answers to some pretty important questions. Why did John Hickenlooper rollover for Bloomberg in the first place? And why do big wallets and East Coast politicians seem to have John Hickenlooper's attention?"
