Issue Position: Limiting the Role of Government

Issue Position

There's no question that the bigger government gets, the more we see corruption and waste, higher taxes, out of control spending, and complicated bureaucracy. The more control given to people who sit in Washington, the less individual liberty all Americans will have.

Case in point -- Executive Branch Over-Reach. President Obama continues to work around Congress and the Constitution to get whatever he wants. The Constitution is the founding bedrock, and the President is not in charge of deciding when and how he'll execute the law of the land.

The ENFORCE the Law Act is legislation I voted for to help rein in over-reach, by requiring the President to report directly to Congress when making a decision not to enforce a law. And, another bill I voted for, the Faithful Execution of the Law Act, formally disapproves the President's dereliction of duty in executing the law

The sheer cost and size of government matters. We face an entitlement crisis. The level of our deficit and debt are unsustainable. Demographics are working against us rather than in our favor. And the current leadership in Washington has made our fiscal problems more, not less, acute. Unless we begin to reverse this trend fairly significantly, America will change in deep and lasting ways. We cannot continue on our present course and remain a strong, vibrant society. There is an urgent need to re-limit government.

The most effective type of government is the one that is closest to the people it serves. Too often, bureaucrats and politicians in Washington think they know what's better for people than those who live everyday in their communities.
