Issue Position: Securing Our National Defense

Issue Position

Date: July 10, 2014

I believe that the number one responsibility of the federal government is to protect American lives. The only way to keep America safe is to keep America strong. The cornerstone of an effective defense remains a strong, well-trained and well-equipped United States military. If America wishes to remain a superpower in the 21st century, we must invest the resources in our military.

Jacksonville's military bases are integral to America's national security structure. As a member of the House Committee on Appropriations, I have worked hard to protect our local military bases, increase military housing, and ensure that the men and women who protect all of us have the finest training and equipment available - nothing is more important than protecting these brave individuals who put their lives on the line everyday to protect America's freedom.

While we're on the subject of protecting Americans, let me address Benghazi. Justice has yet to be served in the deaths of four brave Americans murdered on the night of September 11, 2012. That's why I have supported a Select Committee investigation from the start in order to answer the remaining questions of what exactly happened that night.
