Congressman Pallone is an ardent supporter and advocate of LGBT equality. In 1996, he was one of only 67 members of the House to vote against the Defense of Marriage Act, the federal law that defines marriage as the legal union between one man and one woman. Pallone has jointly filed numerous briefs to the courts arguing against the constitutionality of DOMA, and he is an original co-sponsor of the legislation calling for DOMA's repeal.

For the past two years in a row, Pallone has led efforts in the House calling on President Obama to issue an executive order to protect LGBT federal contract workers from workplace discrimination.
